When an order can be cancelled, exactly what is refundable and what is not, how a refund is calculated, how long it takes, and how to claim one.
Every amount you pay us falls into one of two buckets, and they are treated differently:
| Bucket | What it is | Refundable? |
|---|---|---|
| Our professional fee | What you pay us for our own work — advising on the process, preparing and checking documents, filing, following up and coordinating. | Yes, in proportion to work not yet done. |
| Pass-through charges | Government fees, court fees, stamp duty, registration charges, notary charges, challan payments, photographs, courier and any amount paid to a third party on your instructions. | No, once actually paid out. |
We keep the two separate on every receipt, so you can always see which is which.
If you cancel before we have begun work, you receive a full refund of our professional fee, with no deduction. Nothing is charged for an enquiry, a quotation, or a call about what a process involves — those are free.
If work has started, you are charged only for the stage actually completed, and the balance of our professional fee is refunded. We tell you in writing which stage had been reached and how the figure was arrived at.
| Stage reached when you cancel | Our fee retained |
|---|---|
| Order confirmed, nothing done yet | Nil — full refund of our fee. |
| Documents collected and checked | Up to 25% of our fee. |
| Forms prepared, appointment or date arranged | Up to 50% of our fee. |
| Application filed with the office or court | Up to 100% of our fee — the work is done. Government charges already paid are not refundable. |
| Work completed and outcome delivered | No refund — but see Section 11 if you are not satisfied with the work itself. |
These are the maximum figures. Where less work was actually done, less is retained.
Wherever possible we tell you the amount of a pass-through charge before it is paid, so you can decide before the money becomes irrecoverable.
A court or government office decides an application on its own view of the law and the papers. That decision is not ours to control, so a rejection is not by itself a deficiency in our service. What we undertake is this:
A consultation request sent through this website is free. Where a consultation is fixed and a fee is payable, that fee belongs to the advocate, is payable to that advocate directly, and we neither collect it nor take any share in it. A refund of a consultation fee is therefore a matter between you and that advocate.
What we will do is help. If a consultation you had fixed does not take place, tell us and we will take it up with the advocate on your behalf and, if you wish, arrange another advocate. We ask that a consultation be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance so the slot can be given to somebody else.
Even in these cases, any pass-through money we still hold and have not paid out is returned to you.
A refund is always made to the original payment method. We cannot send a refund to a different account, and we will never ask you for an OTP, a PIN or a card number to process one.
