Advocate Listing Policy

How a listing is created, what it may and may not contain, in what order entries appear, and how a listing is amended or taken down.

Effective from2 September 2026
Last updated2 September 2026
Applies toLegal Space Services website and services
One sentence version. Your entry is a factual directory record published at your own request; it carries only the particulars the Bar Council of India permits, never your fee and never a rating; the list is alphabetical and nothing about it can be bought; and it comes down the day you ask.

1. What this policy is

This policy sets out how Legal Space Services operates the advocate section of this website. It is a statement of our own working rules, and it sits alongside the Terms for Advocates, which is the agreement between us, and the Advocate Declarations, which is what you confirm when you apply. Where this policy and the Terms differ, the Terms govern the relationship and this policy explains the practice.

Nothing here relieves an advocate of their own obligations under the Advocates Act, 1961, the Bar Council of India Rules or any direction of a State Bar Council. Those come first, always.

2. Who may be listed

  • An advocate enrolled with any State Bar Council in India, whose enrolment is current and not suspended.
  • Practising anywhere in India. There is no restriction to Delhi, and no minimum number of years.
  • Applying on their own behalf. We do not accept an application filed by a clerk, an agency or a marketing firm on an advocate's behalf.

A listing is never created without the advocate's own application. We do not scrape Bar Council rolls, court lists or any other source to build entries, and we do not publish anyone who has not asked to be published.

3. What a profile contains

Only the factual particulars a Bar Council permits on a website:

  • name and, where used, designation;
  • enrolment number, State Bar Council and year of enrolment;
  • academic and professional qualifications;
  • areas of practice;
  • courts and forums where you appear;
  • languages, city and office contact details; and
  • a plain description of your work, written by you, in your own words.

A photograph is optional. You can upload, replace or remove it yourself from your advocate login at any time.

4. What is never published

The following are not published on this website, and cannot be requested:

  • Professional fees — no figure, no range, no "starting from", no package price and no comparison of one advocate's charges with another's.
  • Ratings, stars, scores or rankings of any kind.
  • "Best", "top", "leading", "No. 1" or any other claim of superiority.
  • Success rates, win percentages or guarantees of outcome.
  • Client testimonials or reviews of an advocate.
  • Sponsored, featured or promoted placement — these do not exist here.
  • Any detail of a client or a matter.

5. The order of the list

Entries are listed alphabetically by name. Filters narrow the list by practice area, court, city, experience or language; within any filtered result the order remains alphabetical. Nothing moves an advocate up the page — not payment, not seniority, not how long they have been listed, not how many enquiries they have received.

We say this plainly because the opposite is common on legal directories, and because ranking or pricing advocates has been treated as touting rather than information.

6. How we verify

Before a profile goes live we check the enrolment particulars you have given us. We may ask for a copy of your Certificate of Enrolment or Certificate of Practice, and we may re-check at any time afterwards. Until that check is complete the application stays pending and nothing is published.

You receive an Application Number as soon as you submit, and you can follow the application yourself on the tracking page without needing to call anyone.

7. Amendment and removal

Most of your profile you can edit yourself from your advocate login. For the verified particulars — name, enrolment number, Bar Council, year — write to us and we will change them once the change is verified.

Removal is unconditional. Ask, and the listing comes down the same working day. No reason is needed, no notice period applies, and nothing is charged. Your login is closed at the same time. We keep only what we must keep as a record that the listing existed and was removed on your instruction.

8. When we take a listing down

We may suspend or remove a listing, with notice to you wherever it is practicable to give it, if:

  • enrolment cannot be verified, or has lapsed or been suspended;
  • a Bar Council or a court directs it;
  • a particular turns out to be incorrect and is not corrected after we ask;
  • the listing, as it stands, would place either of us in breach of a professional rule; or
  • the advocate login is used in a way that harms a client's confidentiality.

9. Complaints about a listing

Anyone — an advocate, a client, a Bar Council — may write to us about an entry on this website. We acknowledge in writing, look into it, and where an entry should not be there we take it down while we look. Our Grievance Redressal page sets out who handles a complaint and in what time.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we publish the changed version here with a new date. If a change affects what is published about you, we tell you before it takes effect, and you can ask for your listing to be removed instead.

Questions

Questions advocates ask about the listing

Is my position in the list affected by anything I pay?
No. Nothing can be paid for position, and nothing is. The list is alphabetical by name, always. There is no featured slot, no sponsored entry, no boosted profile and no advertising product of any kind on this website. If two advocates practise in the same area, the one whose name comes first in the alphabet appears first — that is the whole rule.
Will my professional fee be shown on my profile?
Never. No fee, no fee range, no "starting from" figure and no comparison with another advocate is published. What you charge is a matter between you and your client and is stated by you on the first call. This is deliberate: publishing or comparing advocates by price has been held to amount to touting.
How long does removal take?
The same working day you ask, and usually within a few hours. You do not have to give a reason. Write from the email address on your profile, or call the office. Your login is closed at the same time.
Can you change my profile text without telling me?
We only correct spelling, formatting and obvious factual slips, and we may shorten text that would breach a Bar Council rule. Anything beyond that is sent to you first. You can also edit most of your profile yourself from your advocate login.
Advocates & Clients

Need an advocate? Or are you one?

Two doors, both free. Clients search a factual directory of enrolled advocates. Advocates apply to be listed on it — no fee, no commission, nothing paid in either direction.

Looking for an advocate?

Search Bar Council enrolled advocates by what your matter is about, by court, or by city. Searching and sending a request are both free.

Are you an advocate?

Enrolled advocates anywhere in India can apply to be listed. Your entry is published only after we verify your enrolment number with your State Bar Council.

  • No listing fee, no subscription, no commission — no money moves in either direction.
  • A directory entry, not an advertisement: only the particulars the Bar Council permits.
  • You keep the client. We do not take instructions for you and take no share of your fee.

This directory carries no ratings, no reviews, no rankings and no fees — only the factual particulars the Bar Council of India permits, published at each advocate's own request. Browse the network · Terms for Advocates
